A DVR (or digital video recorder) is much like a VCR except that it uses a hard drive to record, as opposed to videotapes. In addition, since there aren't any tapes to cue, more recording time becomes available. There are considerable advantages when owning a DVR. For instance, the image quality is remarkably better and is always consistent. The digital effects allow for video archiving, and the transferring of video data to CDs and/or DVDs. On that note, the convenient search functions allow the users quick access to locate the scene and/or chapter that they want to view. The larger the storage capacity of your hard drive in the DVR, the more digital programming you can record. An example would be that at a low resolution, you can store about one hour of video for every gigabyte (GB) of storage.
